“Creativity cannot be bought at any price! It is the occasion, feeling, timing, sense, vibe & all this can only be set into action, or vision by the person gifted with these talents” – Unknown

I remember when I was in primary school I used to place mud, sticks and whatever else I could get my grubby little hands on into the tree stumps and pretend that I was making a mud stew or try to compact this so that it resembled a mud cake (not quite the delicious chocolate cake that we are more familiar with). I can safely say that I didn’t eat these creations of mine, but as many small children I let my imagination run wild to the different possibilities as this was a way of expressing my inner self and where all my senses were engaged.

As I grew older, through my teenager years and also my early 20s’, I lost my creativity and curiosity for cooking and rather explored my creativity through the means of photography, which I found as another way to connect to my inner drive and passion.

As you all know in my early 20s I had my epiphany and eye opening shock that I was leading an incredibly unhealthy lifestyle in terms of diet, physical activity (or rather lack of), stress caused by working multiple jobs and managing full time university, and constantly out and about, that I did not connect with my own needs and desires because I was constantly on the go. I was not able to get in touch with my true focus, inner passions and desires based on my intrinsic values or my vision for my future.

Only through a personal realisation that I had to come to myself did I start to take control of my own life (see My Health Journey for a better insight) and the spark was reignited in me again. I was waking up and so to was my creativity, ambition, self drive, and thirst for knowledge, experiences and self exploration.

Cooking Creativity

Although my passion for authentically living a healthy holistic lifestyle of physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being fostered in my early 20s and steadily grew which I continuously nurtured, my joy within cooking and creating new recipes was only rediscovered in my mid 20s, and  took off last year.

One of the best books I bought for myself was the Flavour Bible. This enabled me to really take my creativity and passion to the next level. I decided to get a bit experimental and create my Green Peas, Strawberry, Mint and Walnut Bliss Balls, which through my curiosity I was able to develop a new unique recipe and most importantly have fun while doing it.

I love both of these quotes, as both of these succinctly encapsulates the necessity to cultivate your creative process:

  • “The arts address the idea of an aesthetic experience. An aesthetic experience is one in which the senses are operating at their peak, when you are present in the current moment, when you are resonating with the excitement of this thing that you are experiencing, when you are fully alive.” – Sir Ken Robinson
  • “The language that lives in the heart and the spirit. It’s the language that emerges when you find the safety to really listen to your heart – Cathy Salser

Now, I invite you to test out my Green Peas, Strawberry, Mint and Walnut Bliss Balls, not just because they are super delicious and healthy, but this recipe encapsulates my creative process of self-discovery and self-expression through a creative discipline that speaks to my heart and that I find joy in. While trying out this recipe take this time to search within yourself to find that creative process which communicates to your authentic self.
