Right now, as you have probably noticed I have been creating a few different bliss balls with more to come because they are just so easy to play around with. You are able to easily create new recipes that are either modifications of previous recipes or completely different depending upon the intention of the bliss ball and the flavour that you aiming to achieve at this particular moment.

The magnificent advantage of making bliss balls is that nearly any ingredient can be added (except of course meat, eggs, alcohol, etc…I hope these items did not even enter your mind because let’s just say I would not wish this upon anyone to try this invention. Keep it smart people!)

Today, I had a desire for a sweeter breakfast option, and instead of reaching for either a sugary, fat-laden croissant, friand, or granola mix, I have decided to create my Fig and Inca Berry Bliss Balls. These are fabulously enticing with their gorgeous colouring and not to mention their naturally sweet taste that will continuously tantalise your taste buds with every bite. 

As you can see from the below ingredients I only use healthy, clean and nutrient dense ingredients that are aimed at nourishing the body without compromising taste (no one likes the idea of eating something that tastes like cupboard just because it is healthy), because I truly believe that to continue along the path of health and wellness you should find the joy in this. 

Two of my main ingredients within this recipe is as you guessed Dried Figs and Inca Berries. I find that both of these ingredients compliment and balance one another out with the burst of sweetness from the dried figs mixed with the unique and distinctive sweet, yet tart finish of the inca berries. 

Both fresh and dried figs are a great additive to any diet, being so versatile. Dried figs, similar to other dried fruits have a higher sugar content that does need to be monitored, however, despite these natural sugars, the consumption of figs is perfect for our digestive tract and also weight management as figs naturally contain high dietary fibre content and prebiotics. Figs are also rich in minerals such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, iron, copper, excellent source of antioxidants, and vitamins A, E, and K that all contribute to your overall health and wellness (Lewin, J, 2015). 

The Inca Berries are a more exotic dried fruit that originates from South America and is deemed a superfood. According to GB-Commtrade, the Inca Berry has been concluded to have a superior antioxidant capacity over Goji Berries (another superfood dried fruit). In addition, Inca Berries take the cake in terms of dietary fibre content compared to any other dried fruit which can be seen in the diagram below (YES I have just created the ultimate fibre rich bliss ball for all of you, I am sure all of you will thank me later because everyone loves having a smooth running digestive tract). Inca Berries are also rich in soluble fibre assisting with appetite control (weight loss), protein, potassium, phosphorus, and vitamin C (GB-Commtrade, 2016).

This recipe makes 9 bliss balls

Dietary

Vegan, Dairy Free, Gluten Free, Refined Sugar Free, Wheat Free

Course

Energising Breakfast and Delightful Desserts

Preparation & Total Time

Prep time: 10 minutes

Standing Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup dried figs 
  • 1/2 cup pitted dates
  • 1/2 cup almonds
  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 1/2 cup inca berries
  • 3 tsp lucuma powder
  • 2 tsp mesquite powder
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 2tsp acai powder

Equipment Required

  • 1 x measuring spoon
  • 1 x food processor
  • 1 x measuring cup
  • 1 x plate

Instructions

  1. Pre-soak the walnuts and almonds over night, or if time sensitive in lukewarm water for 10 minutes
  2. Pre-soak the dried figs and dates for 10 minutes
  3. Drain the walnuts, almonds, figs and dates.
  4. Place all of the ingredients into the food processor and whiz it up
  5. Scoop out a tablespoon full of the mixture and roll into a ball
  6. Place these in the fridge for half an hour to firm up before serving. Bon Apetit!

Tips

  • If you are not a fan of inca berries try apricots or sultanas
  • Store these in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week
  • Store these in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 weeks
